One of the best places to stay in Barcelona is Barceloneta.

This neighborhood is part of the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona and was constructed during the 18th century for the former residents of the Ribera neighborhood who had the move because of plans from the city counsel of Barcelona.

Over the years Barceloneta became the living area of the fishermans who worked in the Old Port, which is located on one site of the area. The Old Port brought a lot of business and work to the city of Barcelona.

Many workers began to live around the ports yacht construction companies, which made Barceloneta grow and expand. Because of the lack of space a lot of apartments where built on top of eachother, giving Barceloneta her current characteristic appearance. Today the Old Port, "Port Vell" offers a beautiful stroll along over the long boulevard of Paseo de Joan de Borbo.

The many workers who lived in Barceloneta were very close with each other, making Barceloneta very social and friendly area of Barcelona. This identidy has been kept over the years. The market place in central Barceloneta is still very much visited every day by the folks just to talk, drink a coffee in the many small coffee shops or do some groceries.

Barceloneta is also known for its sandy beaches. The Barceloneta beach is the closest beach to Barcelona city centre. From one of our many apartments in this area you really have this beach on your doorstep. But also from the famous Ramblas it is only about a 15 minute walk to the beach.

Barceloneta beach gained status as the best urban beach in the World and total third best beach in the World, according the documentary film "Worlds Best Beaches" produced by Discovery Channel in 2005.

When strolling around the Barcelona Boulevard in the evenings, you pass by many great sea food restaurants which serve up the fresh catches of the day.Also try the nice cocktail bars located on along the beaches. And for a nightly adventure Catwalk, Shoko and Opium Mar is definitely a good recommendation.

All in all Barceloneta feels like a little village of its own, with groceries around the corner, the city centre easily reached on foot and of course the sandy beaches on your doorstep.  A great place to stay during your Barcelona visit.
