Is the old town dangerous?

If it was we would under no circumstances be renting out apartments in a dangerous area.

How ever old town is the most popular area for tourism and as we all know, where there are tourists there are pocket thieves.

We therefore highly recommend you to take minimum money with you on your days out and not to bring your passports as they are secure in the apartment.

We also strongly advice you to NEVER leave your bags unattended and always hold on to them, as it is when you least suspect it that it will happen.  They tend to go for easy targets and spare themselves from hassle.

Be aware of scams:

If someone stops you and tries to direct your attention towards something you might want to be careful and aware, as it is by distracting people attention they operate the best.

Another scam is on the Rambla where you will find people playing games with three little boxes and an object moved from one box to another.

It seems very easy to spot the object and fellow members of the "scam team" will pretend to play and this is when they make it look very easy.

We highly recommend you not to participate in these games as not only are they illegal but before you know it you might have lost a great deal of money.

When sitting at a bar or restaurant, you might have left your mobile phone on the table or any other valuable object. Someone might come up and ask you for directions or a lighter or what ever else, while doing this they might hold a jacket/newspaper/map to cover the table and with the hand underneath help themselves to the objects on the table without you noticing.

The Akaza Team does not want to scare you by any means but to make you aware and prevent any mishaps during your vacation.
