In May 2008, Spanish TV 1 made a documentary about the special neighbourhood of Barcelona, "Barceloneta". The program is about the changes this neighbourhood is experiencing. All from apartments being lived in by elderly who lived there all their lives paying 22€ rent a month with an indefinite contract, meaning the owners cannot ask them to leave the apartment. Which causes problems since the up keep of the apartment's are too expensive to cover with the small amount of rent coming in.
Other discussions are about elevators they want to put into the buildings meaning lots of the buildings will be destroyed. Foreigners who have come to but apartments to then rent out to foreigners and what the neighbours feel about this.
Akaza is there to explain the advantages this phenomena has had on this old neighbourhood with no money to invest to keep up these historical buildings, but also with a high degree of responsibility of the their guests coming to stay in the apartments with the intention to ensure a common respect towards the local neighbours.
